OSD brings the video games industry together for one big day of fundraising to help gamers’ charity SpecialEffect level the playing field for gamers with disabilities. Watch this video to hear Dr Mick Donegan, SpecialEffect Founder and CEO, talk more about this amazing day.

With the aim of raising £500,000, games companies participate in one huge charitable push to bring magic gaming moments to the many people that Special Effect support every day. People like 12-year-old football fan, Finlay Sangster, who has cerebral palsy. With the help of SpecialEffect and British Airways, Christmas came early for Finlay when he received an amazing array of surprises including a bespoke remote control, so that he could finally enjoy the magic of playing on an Xbox together with his friends and family. In 2017, over 50 games industry companies took part, including household names like EA, SEGA, Supercell, and Rovio. The event attracted international attention and resulted in extensive positive publicity for the industry and the companies involved.

The support of developers, publishers, and gamers will help the thousands of disabled people every year who ask for the charity’s assistance. Their teams of therapists and technical specialists travel across the UK for face-to-face assessments and loans of customised technology to help bring joy into the lives of people with disabilities and in turn, the charity pass on what they learn to help hardware and software developers all over the world make their technology easier to use for as many people as possible.
